Prompt

Enlarge this photo while rebuilding clean, natural detail: keep the composition, colors, and every subject exactly as they are.

What upscaling does here

Scale picker with the 2x and 4x options

2x or 4x, your call

The scale picker sets the exact factor. 2x doubles both dimensions; 4x quadruples them for print and marketplace sizes.

One-to-one crop showing rebuilt texture after upscaling

Detail that holds up

A Real-ESRGAN model rebuilds fine texture as the image grows, so edges and fabric weave stay readable instead of going soft.

Comparison between plain stretching and upscaled enlargement

Enlarge without the blur

Plain resizing interpolates between existing pixels and blurs. Upscaling reconstructs them, so the larger image stays sharp at the same viewing size.

The result lands in the same editor. Remove the background for a listing, fix the lighting with the photo enhancer, then download once.

An image upscaler that runs in the browser

This AI image upscaler increases image resolution by 2x or 4x and returns the same picture. You upload the file, choose the factor, and download the result; there is no prompt to write and nothing to install. It works on JPEG, PNG, and WebP up to 20MB, and the output keeps your original composition, because the factor changes resolution, never framing.

Upscale an image online

Should you upscale 2x or 4x?

Start from the source size

Small images gain the most from either factor. If your original is already 1024px on its long edge or larger, a 4x pass takes it past 4K, which is what print and marketplace placements ask for.

Match the factor to the job

Web and social use rarely need more than 2x. Selling platforms, print layouts, and crops you plan to cut from the image justify 4x.

One output limit, stated up front

The long edge of the result stays at or below 8192px. If your original is large, the 4x option tells you before you spend anything, and 2x is always available.

How to upscale an image

Three decisions and a download.

1

Upload the original

Any JPEG, PNG, or WebP up to 20MB. Use the largest original you have; upscaling cannot recover detail that was never captured.

2

Pick 2x or 4x

2x for everyday use, 4x when the image is headed to print or a marketplace listing. The picker shows the credit cost of each factor.

3

Wait for the pass

The model rebuilds the image at the new size. Most jobs finish in well under a minute.

4

Check, then download

Zoom to 100% and look at the areas that matter to you: small text, fabric, faces. If something looks off, run the pass again or try the other factor.

What does AI upscaling actually do?

Every AI image upscale rebuilds detail rather than adding real information. The model infers plausible texture as it enlarges, so the result looks sharp, but the fine detail is an educated reconstruction, not recovered truth. That is why the how-to above asks you to check small text and faces at full size before you use the result. If your photo is dark, soft, or badly color-shifted, fix that first with the photo enhancer and upscale after; if resolution is the only problem, you are in the right place. Very small originals have little for the model to work from, and extreme crops of the result will always look softer than the whole.

Try a 2x upscale

Who this is for

Marketplace sellers

Turn a phone product shot into a 4x listing image that survives zoom on marketplaces that inspect photo quality.

Family archives

Enlarge a scanned or restored old photo far enough to print. Restore it first, then upscale the result for the frame.

Creators

Push an AI render, avatar, or channel art past its native size without the mush that plain stretching leaves behind.

AI image upscaler questions

Credits, formats, limits, and how the enlargement behaves.

Yes. Signed-in accounts get 9 free credits every UTC day and a 2x upscale costs 1 credit, so the daily allowance covers nine of them; guests get 3 free credits a day without signing up. Results download with no watermark, and a failed run returns the credits it took.

JPEG, PNG, and WebP up to 20MB. You can upscale a PNG screenshot, a camera JPEG, or a WebP export the same way. Large results are delivered as JPEG to keep the file manageable; everything else stays PNG.

The long edge of the result tops out at 8192px, which covers 4K and most print needs. If your original is too large for 4x under that cap, the editor says so before you spend anything and suggests the smaller factor.

Honest answer: it depends on the image. Dedicated tools (this one, upscale.media, imgupscaler, and the desktop app Upscayl) run the same family of Real-ESRGAN models, so results are similar for photos. What differs is the workflow: exact factor choice, transparent credit costs, no watermark, and an editor waiting when the upscale finishes. Try a free 2x pass here and compare on your own images before paying anywhere.

The composition, colors, and subjects stay as they are; this is not a generative re-render. What changes is size, plus reconstructed fine detail. Reconstructed means the model infers texture, so check small text and faces at 100% before you use the result.

Yes. Line art, flat color blocks, and screenshots respond well because the model keeps edges crisp. It runs the general-purpose weights rather than anime-specific ones, so compare a 2x pass at full size if precise line weight matters to you.

The enhancer fixes how a photo looks: soft focus, dim light, faded color. This tool fixes how big it is. If a photo needs both, enhance first, then upscale the improved result; the two tools link to each other for exactly that order.
